Here at the Midland Public Library, we’re working to ensure our programs, services and collections are accessible to all.
In-House use
MPL Sensory Bags
We’ve partnered with KultureCity® to help assist and accommodate patrons with sensory needs. Sensory bags from KultureCity, equipped with noise cancelling headphones (provided by Puro Sound Labs), fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads, will be available at either service desk to patrons at MPL who may feel overwhelmed by the environment. MPL staff will be trained annually.
Prior to visiting the library, families can download the free KultureCity App where they can view what sensory features are available and where they can access them. Also on the App is our Social Story, which will provide a preview of what to expect while visiting MPL.
We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of Huronia Community Foundation, a public foundation serving the people of Huronia, in providing this service.

Available to Borrow
C-Pen Readers
C-Pen readers are available for patrons with varying abilities in reading print. The pens make it easy to process printed text, empowering people’s ability to read, understand and learn.
Reading Bars
Our 3D printed reading bar isolates text on a page so readers can focus on reading one or two lines at a time. This tool is curved to contour an opened book.
Cognitive Care Kits
Thanks to funding from the Government of Ontario, you can check out one of our nine themed cognitive care kits. Each kit contains three activities designed to help you engage with your loved one who is living with dementia or other cognitive disabilities, as well as a sheet of tips to help set you up for success.
DAISY Readers
MPL has two DAISY disc readers for loan to patrons with print disabilities. Loan periods may be extended as desired by the borrower, or until another patron requires a loan. A deposit collection of DAISY discs can be borrowed with each player.
CELA Services
Centre for Equitable Library Access is a public library service for patrons with print disabilities. With a valid Midland Public Library card, patrons can register with CELA and gain access to over 300,000 items in various formats.
